Hello and welcome to my new website and my first blog!
As the old cliche goes, “When it rains, it pours,” and cliches become what they are for a reason…because they are often true. I got a taste of this particular one during the month of July. Frankly, it was a lousy month, from flat tires to rejection letters (alas, they are an inescapable part of writer life). But the dark cloud hanging over much of the month was having my Facebook page hacked into and being locked out of my account. Weeks later, Facebook is still taking their good old sweet time at helping me resolve the issue. A year ago, this wouldn’t have bothered me much, but since becoming a published author, it’s been a marketing nightmare.
I must admit, I am one of those people who enjoys staying all snug and cozy in my comfort zone. I was happy to focus on my writing and content to spread the word about my published works through social media. It was easy and convenient. I was building a way to market myself as an author, right? What better way than through social media? Why do I need a website when I have an author page on Facebook? What could go wrong? As it turns out…everything.
But here’s the good news. Sometimes, it takes that torrential downpour to make us crawl out of our cozy comfort zone burrows and seek higher ground. So, here I am, moving into my own little piece of internet real estate. Maybe one of these days, Facebook will have mercy on me and let me back in, but regardless of the ebb and flow of social media, I now have a permanent residence on the World Wide Web. I’ve set up house and turned the lights on so my friends and readers can find me. So stop by, put your feet up, and hopefully enjoy a good book or two while you’re here. I hope you stick around!
